Terra Nova - 1.07 Nightfall

A aerial meteor strike near Terra Nova, accompanied an EMP and sonic wave, causes all the electronics in the colony to fail and physical destruction.

I really can't believe that at least the critical systems weren't hardened against EMPs, especially the defensive systems, medical systems and chip replicator. I wish they would quit bringing up the Shannons' violation of the population control laws as it makes them look like a bunch of selfish, entitled jerks. Why would anyone construct access tunnels be too small for an adult?

Seven out of ten

Terra Nova - 1.06 Bylaw

Jim investigates Terra Nova's first murder.

It's inconvenient when your murder evidence ends up inside a dinosaur.

Seven out of ten.

Terra Nova - 1.05 The Runaway

A girl who ran away from the Sixers comes to stay with the Shannons. Maddy begins an apprenticeship at the infirmary with her mother.

Seven out of ten.

Terra Nova - 1.04 What Remains

A research outpost encounters a new pathogen which causes memory loss and paranoia.

Amnesia shouldn't be used a plot device until regular viewers understand the tragedy, significance and irony of what the characters have forgotten.

Six out of ten.

Terra Nova - 1.03 Instinct

The colony comes under attack from pterosaurs.

I still don't like any of the characters.

Six out of ten.

Terra Nova - 1.02 Genesis, Part 2

The family continues to adjust to their new environment. The Sixers visit the colony. Jim Shannon joins the colony's security force.

The rest of my family refuses to watch any more episodes.

Six out of ten.

Terra Nova - 1.01 Genesis, Part 1

The Shannon family joins the tenth pilgrimage to the Terra Nova colony, 85 million years in the past.

Concept is interesting but the characters seem rather annoying.

Primeval - 5.01 featuring Giant Beetles

An underground creature grabs a worker. Connor learns some of Philip's secrets and Philip introduces him to April. Lester is hoping for a knighthood.

Giant bugs - yuck! - but I liked Becker's tank lust. This incident was a good argument for not having Connor and Abby on the same team.

Seven out of ten.

Primeval - 4.07 With terror birds and a surprise return

At a old prison, that is now a museum, multiple anomalies appear.

Rather liked that Danny Quinn made it home but I'm not sure of the point of Ethan being Danny's missing brother Patrick. Yay, Danny confirms Helen Cutter is dead.

Well, the ending seemed rather ominous.

Eight out of ten.

Notes:
-Patrick was 14, went through an anomaly 18 years ago.
-Matt's from the future, to prevent to coming sterilizing disaster of the world that wiped out surface life.

Primeval - 3.01 featuring the Egyptian Suncage

An anomaly opens at the British Museum where Sarah Page works. Captain Becker joins the team.

Sort of a shame they didn't use the mythological creatures angle more in season 3.

Seven out of ten.

Primeval - 4.05 featuring the Witchfield Worm

Abby, Connor and Matt travel to Witchfield Cove which has a creature known as the Worm which turns to be a labyrinthodont. Ethan continues to hold Emily captive. Philip offers Connor a position with his company.

I think I missed Becker.

Seven out of ten

Primeval - 4.04 - Featuring Killer Detention

On a Saturday, an anomaly appears at a school and Therocephalians come through. Philip threatens to close the menagerie and euthanize the animals, including Rex.

I rather liked the school - most of mine were drab affairs, with little natural light. Does Becker live at the ARC?

Seven out of ten.

Primeval - 4.03 featuring Time Travellers and Tree Creatures

Three time travellers come through an anomaly seeking medical aid for one of them.

Seven out of ten.

Notes:
- Gideon is dying, weeks to months to live
- Gideon has been waiting his whole life for it.
- 15 in Emily's group, interfering in another human era is against the rules,
- Lady Emily Merchant, Born 1840 London - travelling with Ethan, dead woman was Charlotte
- Philip has a black project called New Dawn

Primeval - 4.02 featuring Kaprosuchus aka Boar Croc

Abby is allowed back to work in the ARC as the keeper of the Menagerie while Connor isn't allowed back to the ARC as all front line positions are now military.

Why wouldn't they take Connor back into tech as he developed the anomaly detector and closer?  Let alone his qualifications in cryptozoology and paleontology. Matt's motives are rather intriguing - along with Gideon. I liked Jess' flat.

Seven out of ten.

Notes
Philip is the one who implemented the military only on the front lines rule. Matt and Lester wanted Abby and Connor back on the front lines.

Primeval - 4.01

Abby and Connor have spent a year surviving in the Cretaceous, hoping to find a way home.

Eight out of ten.

Primeval - 3.10 3rd Season Finale

Danny, Abby and Connor chase Helen in the future anomaly. Sarah and Becker deal with an open anomaly at Johnson's facility.

And this is why time travel is bad and improbable. It gives someone the opportunity to wipe out their entire species.

Helen and the raptor next to the Australopithecus would make quite the confounding find and given that the Australopithecus were probably preserved Helen and the raptor should be too. Maybe Danny hid or destroyed them so they wouldn't fossilize.

Eight out of ten.

Primeval - 3.08 featuring Future Insects

Abby's brother Jack ends up in the future after accidentally going through an anomaly.  Becker, Abby, Connor, And Danny go through the anomaly to the future apparently devoid of humanity and instead populated with giant flying ant/wasp descendants and super predators.

I hate insects.

Seven out of ten.

The Secret Circle - 1.03 Loner

The teen's circle deals with the consequences of having bound their powers. The high school holds a dance.

Seven out of ten.

The Secret Circle - 1.02 Bound

The town prepares for the fair. Cassie finds out more about being a witch and begins to realize why the circle need to be bound.

I like the intergenerational aspect, with the grandparents being involved as well.

Seven out of ten.

The Secret Circle - 1.01 Pilot

A month after her mother's death in a mysterious house fire, Cassie Blake moves in with her maternal grandmother and into her mother's childhood home.

Interesting enough to watch the next episode despite the rather stereotypical teenagers.

Seven out of ten.

Primeval - 3.06 featuring Terror Birds

Christine Johnson takes over the ARC, with Danny, Connor, Abby and Sarah escaping to what they believe is a safe site, but is, instead, an anomaly through which Terror Birds are emerging. Lester is dismissed and Becker is kept on by Christine. Abby's brother holds a poker game in her flat.

Eight out of ten.

Primeval - 3.02 "Gremlins"

Cutter makes a prediction of an anomaly site based on their new model mapping anomalies through history.

Danny Quinn is introduced.

Seven out of ten.

Primeval - 2.07 featuring Leek's Zoo

Cutter, Jenny, Abby and Connor are held by Helen and Leek at Leek's zoo, while Stephen deals with a giant sand scorpion released by Leek unto a beach.

I am still annoyed that Stephen hasn't been brought back to life.

Eight out of ten.

Primeval - 2.05 featuring Giant Scorpions

A teenage girl gets trapped on the other side of an anomaly in desert full of giant scorpions.

Eight out of ten.

Hawaii Five-O - 2.02 Ua Lawe Wale

A 15-year-old female paddle board champion is kidnapped at a competition. The governor assigns a new officer to the Five-O.

I kept dropping off to sleep but that may have been a lack of sleep and not the show.

Seven out of ten.

Pan Am - 1.01 Pilot

A Pan AM flight crew breaks in a new cutter jet on its maiden from New York to London.

I can't see the attraction. I'm not a fan of the time period nor did I like any of the characters. I just keep on thinking the CGI budget could have been used to a good SF series.

Doctor Who - R6.12 Closing Time

The Doctor visits Craig and his infant son and discovers something unusual going on in their neighbourhood.

I liked Craig with the Doctor, but I still wasn't sure what the Cybermen were doing there in the end. How many times will the great Doctor Who villains be defeated by love? First the Daleks and now the Cybermen?

So what has the Doctor been doing for the last 200 years? A two century good bye tour?

I think knowing the Doctor is going to die is starting to bore me, especially after it was the theme of the last Tenth Doctor specials. Maybe they should try to surprise us with the ending instead of letting us know ahead of time. I've been avoiding spoilers lately, but I feel like the show itself has been spoiling me.

Seven out of ten.

Person of Interest - 1.01 Pilot

Mr. Finch offers Mr. Reese a job preventing crimes in New York city.

A different concept which is interesting enough to tune into again. Reese is suggestive of what Michael Westen from Burn Notice would be like if the people who had burned him had eliminated Fiona, Sam and his mother, but I find his viciousness disturbing. The voice-over explanations also remind me of Burn Notice, but the explanatory title on the characters may be the device that may have proven more useful.

Eight out of ten.

Warehouse 13 - 3.03 Love Sick

Dr. Vanessa Calder, the Warehouse physician, asks for Artie's help with A CDC case where people are being transformed into clay. Pete and Myka wake up naked and together in Artie's bed.

Lindsay Wagner and Rene Auberjonois guest star, Yay! I really like how this show uses experienced actors effectively. The B plot with Steve, Myka and Pete seemed like a waste; I didn't learn about them or the Warehouse in the process except for being introduced to a few more objects in storage.

Seven out of ten.

Burn Notice - 3.04 Fearless Leader

Detective Paxson continues to cause Michael complications. Sam is audited.

A fun episode.

Eight out of ten.

Castle - 4.01 Rise

The squad deals with the fallout from the shooting and their new captain.

Guest stars Michael Dorn, yay! And Penny Johnson and Victor Webster which make it a SF guest star trifecta.

The long drawn out surgery scene was boring not dramatic. I was rather disappointed with this episode, which I was really looking forward to. I guess my expectations were too high.

Seven out of ten.

Hawaii Five-O - 2.01 Ha'i'ole

A week after Wo Fat murdered the Govenor, Steve is in prison, accused of the crime as his mentor, Joe White, arrives on the island.

A nice action packed episode with a neat twist at the end.

Eight out of ten.

Burn Notice - 3.03 End Run

Nate is bough back to Miami and becomes entangled with Michael's enemy Brennen.

Eight out of ten.

Burn Notice - 3.02 Question and Answer

While being investigated by a police officer, Detective Paxson, Michael helps a divorced couple get their kidnapped son back.

Seven out of ten.

Burn Notice - 3.01 Friends and Family

After Harlan, an old friend, gets Michael out of jail, Michael helps Harlan help a woman whose family's land is being stolen by a mobster.

I didn't see Harlan's betrayal coming.

Eight out of ten.

Ringer -1.01 Pilot

Bridget, a recovering addict, is in protective custody waiting to testify against a mobster in a murder trail and goes to visit her twin sister, Siobhan after a long separation.

That I knew Siobhan was alive from the get go isn't the best sign but I'll probably try it again next week.

Seven out of ten.

Lost Girl - 2.02 I Fought The Fae (And the Fae Won)

The Blackthorne arrives in town to hold a Stag Hunt to determine the new Ash. Sabine, the light Fae prisoner who is to be hunted as the Stag, goes to Bo for help. Bo plans to woo Dyson back.

Seven out of ten.

Warehouse 13 - 3.02 Trials

Pete and Myka investigate a case of mental age regression in an airline pilot. Claudia and Jinks are sent to retrieve Typhoid Mary's butcher knife.

Seven out of ten.

Warehouse 13 - 3.01 The New Guy

As Pete is having a tough time dealing with Myka's departure, a new agent, Steve Jinks, joins the Warehouse.

I rather liked Artie's simple one word reaction to Myka's return - "Good".

Eight out of ten.

Lost Girl - 2.01 Something Wicked This Fae Comes

Three weeks later, Dyson is still missing and Bo and friends are trying to keep a lid on the Fae activities with half the Light Elders dead and the Ash still critically injured.

The visuals seem better in this season.

Eight out of ten.

Doctor Who - R6.11 The God Complex

Amy, Rory and the Doctor become trapped in a hotel where the rooms contain each person's worst nightmare.

After this episode, I just feel mildly ripped off that I didn't find out what was in the Doctor's room.

Oddly, I don't feel that bad about Amy and Rory's departure from the TARDIS except for the fact that Doctor tends to become unbalanced when he travels by himself. You'd think the Doctor would know that by now, that he needs a companion, that the best way to keep everyone in the universe safe is to have a companion, even if he keeps losing them. He should just consider it the lesser of two evils. I'm actually kind of hoping for a regeneration soon as I'm not that crazy about Eleven's persona or companions at this point.

Seven out of ten.

Blue Bloods - 2.01 Mercy

The husband of Erin's friend is murdered. Frank offers his resignation to the Mayor elect. Youngest son has his first undercover assignment.

A rather ho-hum episode to start the season.

Seven out of ten.

Supernatural - 7.01 Meet The New Boss

Castiel takes his new position as The Lord.

One of my favourite episodes of the series which pulled off the near impossible feats of making me love it while it may have killed off one of my favourite characters. Kudos to Misha Collins for portraying three characters in the same episode so effectively. Hopefully Leviathan Castiel gets to stay around for a while as he seems extremely entertaining. There were so many possibilities hinted at in episode and so many great moments. It nicely illustrated why a highly interventionist God could be a bad thing. Every time Dean meets Death I am left with the lingering feeling that Dean is being groomed for a position or task by death, sort of like with Gabriel and Sam. Bringing back Lucifer made the tormented Sam scenes tolerable. My only real problem was the preview for next week had no information about the storyline I'm interested in.

Ten out of ten.

Fringe - 4.01 Neither Here Nor There

The two Fringe divisions begins to work together while the Observers want to remove all traces of Peter having ever lived to adulthood. Olivia investigates the murder of Lincoln Lee's FBI partner.

This show needed a third and fourth reality like a hole in the head. Good grief. Two universes weren't confusing enough for the audience. This show isn't good enough or fun enough for me to continue keeping trap of this many details.

I was rather disappointed that Joe Flanigan's character died in the opening scenes. I'm also annoyed that Peter was still missing at the end of the episode.

Supernatural - Season Seven

What do I want from Season 7?

1. Keep Castiel alive and involved. Castiel and the celestial storyline is one of the main reasons I kept watching and became obsessed after season three.

2. Get poor Adam out of the Cage.

3. Dean possessed by Michael. I still feel ripped off that we never got to see Jensen Ackles do Michael. I'll happily even take an alternate timeline.

4. Where are John and Mary Winchester's souls?

5. Keep surprising me.

Burn Notice - 4.02 Fast Friends

Michael wants to bring the operative he burned, Jesse Porter, into his investigation. Madeline intends to rent out her garage.

I liked the interaction between Jesse and the gang.

Eight out of ten.

Sanctuary - 1.11 Instinct

The team hunts an abnormal in a warehouse while in the company of a local TV reporter and camera man before the police arrive.

It evokes memories of the movie Cloverfield with the hand-held video style and the heard but never seen camera man providing commentary. The episode reaches a typical end with the camera man's death and the team destroying/obtaining the footage.

Stargate SG-1 - 1.22 Within the Serpent's Grasp

Star Trek: The Next Generation - 4.05 Remember Me

Beverly Crusher is the only one to notice when people begin to go missing from the Enterprise.

Seven Star ships out of ten.

Notes
  • The last to vanish were Wesley and finally Picard.
  • The Traveller returns

Doctor Who - R1.05 World War Three

Rose and the Doctor battle the Slitheen at 10 Downing Street.

The Slitheen are scarier once they start hunting.

Eight TARDISes out of ten.

Notes
  • Doctor guilt & sympathy for the dead, apologizes to them
  • Taking power to gain access to Britain's nuclear weapons
  • The Doctor was always able to escape the cabinet room but method is risky to those inside.
  • The Doctor offers to take Mickey and Mickey refuses
Quotes
"I could save the world but lose you." - The Ninth Doctor to Rose Tyler

Doctor Who - R1.04 Aliens of London

Rose and the Doctor return to present day London a year after Rose left to the arrival of aliens to Earth.

The Slitheen are rather silly looking.

Eight TARDISes out of ten.

Notes
  • A boy spray paints BAD WOLF on the side of the TARDIS.
  • Big Ben is destroyed by the alien's ship.
  • Harriet Jones is introduced.
  • The Doctor give Rose a key to the TARDIS.
Quotes
"I don't do families." - The Ninth Doctor

Stargate SG-1 - 10.09 Company of Thieves

SG-1 must rely on Vala to provide transportation to investigate the condition of Odyssey after it is lured to a minefield with Colonel Carter aboard.

I sort of lost track of the episode half way through and was rather confused by Daniel being in command of the Odyssey's bridge towards the end.

Seven out of ten.

Star Trek - 2.15 Journey to Babel

The Enterprise is taking a large group of ambassadors of the Federation to a council at Babel, including Mr. Spock's parents, the Vulcan Ambassador Sarek and his human wife, Amanda.

The old rare blood type trope, but you'd think they'd have a reasonable blood substitute by then.

Notes
  • Spock hasn't been home in 4 years, and hasn't to his father as a father in 18 years.
  • Sarek is secretly proud of his son being a Starfleet officer according to Amanda.
  • Vulcans used to execute people.
  • Sarek is 102 years old.
  • Gratuitous shirtless Kirk scene
  • Spock uses an experimental drug on himself to enable Bones to correct Sarek's heart defect.
  • Bones seemed rather to have a full sickbay with Sarek, Spock and Kirk in there as patients at the end.

Doctor Who - R1.03 The Unquiet Dead

Rose and the Doctor visit Cardiff at Christmas on 1869 and meet Charles Dickens and investigate why the dead are refusing to rest.

I rather liked that somewhere at the back of the TARDIS there is a closet full of period clothing for companions.

Eight TARDISes out of ten.

Notes
  • Bad Wolf mentioned by Gwyneth when she was reading Rose
  • Rose and the Doctor battle the Gelth.
  • Introduced of the Cardiff rift.
  • Foreshadowing of Rose thinking about her deceased father
  • Gelth claim to have been disembodied by the Time War and few in number and could use dead bodies.
  • Turns out there were a few billion.
  • Rose is suffering from the misconception that she can't die in the past. The Doctor says history is in flux and the future could be rewritten by what happen there and now.
Quotes

"It's a different morality. Get used to it or go home." - The Ninth Doctor to Rose Tyler

Sanctuary - 2.10 Sleepers

A group of rich, twenty-something friends suddenly discover they are immortal.

Tesla is fun to watch but you have to wonder if Helen shouldn't keep a closer eye on him.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - 4.04 Suddenly Human

The Enterprise brings a human male teenager who had been raised by Talarians.

Picard's difficulty with children is revisited. I'm wondering if they were trying to attract a younger audience this season as this is the third episode in a row to feature younger guest stars. You'd think the soundproofing in a 24th century star ship my be better. The resolution of the episode felt rather rushed.

Six starships out of ten.

Doctor Who - R5.03 Victory of the Daleks

The Doctor and Amy visit London during World War II and meet Winston Churchill who is planning to use Daleks to win the war.

Daleks serving tea are just creepy and wrong. I'm not crazy about the primary-colored Daleks though.

Eight out of ten.

Doctor Who - R5.02 The Beast Below

In the 29th century, Amy and the Doctor visit the Starship UK after the earth was evacuated.

Burn Notice - 4.01 Friends and Enemies

V - 1.12 Red Sky

Stargate SG-1 - 1.21 Politics

A Senator visits the facility with the intent on closing the Stargate project.

It was Senator Kinsey, chairman of appropriations committee.

There was lots of arguing around tables and use of clips from old episodes which could be helpful to someone who missed the first few episodes, but rather boring to watch, It was a long  set up for a season finale, especially when I believed from the start that the senator would change his mind, via something happening. Basically low budget filler.

Stargate SG-1 - 1.20 There but for the Grace of God

Daniel ends up on alternate Earth where he refused to joined SG-1 and the Earth is under attack by the Goa'uld.

Sam and Jack were engaged in the alternate environment. The mirror device's resemble to the gateway in Star Trek's "The City on the edge of Forever" seems more than coincidental. The writers may have over-used the ability to kill series regulars in the alternate reality, as this one turned into a bloodbath.
